Sometimes weeks will drag by and other's... well... just FLY! That was the case of this past week. I literally cannot BELIEVE that it is almost mid March. HOW? I guess when you lose an hour of sleep and every hour seems so precious, you spend a heck of a lot of time trying to recoup that lost hour.
Let me back up and share the highlights from last weekend. It is still a bit of a blur since we operated on about 6 hours of sleep each night. (minus the one hour on Sat. makes it 5... oy)... but Madison's first competion of the '09 season went extremely well. She has 12 dances and all of her dances scored high marks. In her solo hip hop routine she received the highest ranking the award (Platinum) and she scored 3rd overall for all the routines in her age category (that's approx. 25 routines). I'm VERY happy to report that we did an EXCELLENT job of getting along. I have to confess that under very stressful conditions like dance competitions, the tension between us can be pretty high. She's a little... anal about how she wants things done and I try to be accomodating as best I can but I still have to wear the Mom hat and get her inline at times. This weekend was virtually drama free. YEA!
She also received a special recognition award given to only 4 people in the entire competition (that's out of approx. 150 dancers). It is a scholorship awarded to the dancer that caught their eye. Another girl from our studio was also awarded this scholorship. I"m very proud of her.
Not ONE photo was taken this weekend. That happens because I have trouble focusing on the competition and trying to get good photos. We have another competition this weekend that I hope I will take a few photos at.
Other news; I updated my status on Facebook yesterday to indicate that I worked as an extra on the set of One Tree Hill (the television series on the WB network that is filmed locally). A few months ago, while I was in the local casting office of our film production studio for an audition for Madison, I signed up to be called for extra work. The pay is reasonable and the work is... light! heheehe. Basically you do a lot of standing around and crowd filler work as needed. I got a call on Sunday asking if I would be interested in working as an extra on Tuesday. I had no idea what I would be asked to do but I was excited at the opportunity. When I got there, almost 300 other people were all sitting in an auditorium waiting to be called into an even bigger gym where we were asked to be the 'fans' in the stadium for a basketball game scene that was filmed. What was pretty crazy was how LONG it takes to film a scene. They have rehearsal scenes that they practice several times an then they film several shots of the same scene several times. One scene can take up to 2 hours to actually film. This is why we were there for 10.5 hours. It was exciting to watch how a television series is created. I would love to do it again... just not right away!
I have a couple days of breather before the weekend of another competition (just a one day deal, thankfully) and then I work 5 days next week cleaning houses. The following weekend, Madison and I will ride on a charter bus 4 hours away to attend a state wide competition for middle schools that will perform a play. Madison's school is performing "The Lost Half Hour" which is a really adorable, funny play that I thoroughly enjoyed. We have to leave at 5am and get back around 1am... that will make for a VERY long day.
I don't have any recent photos to share but I can't leave this post photoless so I will post a recent layout I made using the latest March CMK kit.
